today i submitted NADJA to kickstarter. it's been a long time. i want to do comics again. i dont know if it'll happen. but i can always try. because then i can either succeed or fail: and I cannot do either if i dont try.

haven;t read this in a long time. i think i needed to be away from it to see it with new ocular lenses...

a long time ago, i wrote this:

PARKOUR

Taken down from the windswept drafts of the fallout of Neo-Paris, Nadja began her weekly search for survivor camps and new wreckage to salvage. Usually it was nothing new, occasionally a token from years past, a life past, would rear it's disheveled head from the debris. More often it was residue and tissue and burnt materials from the time before her time.

"Today" Nadja thought "would be a good day." There was electrostatic in the air. Waves would wallow past the sun as it sat there miles above Neo-Paris in an angry blaze and scowling face. Usually, after a wind storm most of the elderly refused to go out, still littered with the memories of fear from the plagues, the fallout of the war that divided humanity.

If nothing else, the sandstorms would at least un-bury the dead so they could once again remind the living of the choices that had come to form the present state of humanity. Despair was a daily occurrence, but it festered under hushed breathes and the listless paranoia of the survivors.

Today Nadja took path away from the small group of life she called home; like a minute pollen sample or penicillin in a petri dish: isolated, secluded, and terrified that another deadly swab would be the end of the colony.

As much as she made it her day to day, going about and sorting those survivors who should continue to survive from those who survived with no purpose. It was exhausting work, futile it seemed, but it gave Nadja purpose that no one else could fulfill. In the world before her time, the world of money-men and weapons, one of her state would have been locked away for the things she did. But in this new world, where there existed no commodity except that which was life, she was as good as any peace officer who could place a bullet on the brain.

So a twinkle was good, a glimmer detracted from the dull pallor of dead flesh or the festering beating of a survivor. A glimmer changed the days events and detracted from the everyday slaughter and sadness of this future world.

A twinkle usually meant an item from a world's past; something manufactured by the hand or the machine built by the hand; Something relevant to advancement. Money burned, status was an oral fixation, nothing from the capitalism of the last world had staying power beyond the blast of a nuclear war.

Only things worked from the earth by hand, only things created from some advancement from the nature of man could make it past a blast and provide some physical evidence that indeed a small percentage of the human race added something to their life.

Occasionally it was jewels: those were frowned upon like murderous weapons from the materialistic connotations that befell the mass majority of mankind. Sometimes they were gears or wheels or buttons from some intricate manifestation of a problem solved by something coined 'technology'.

The wheels of men's mind revealed themselves this day, after the sandstorm over the phosphorescent horizon of Neo-Paris. A day that would soon be hard to be forgotten...

a friend of mine has become the blog-magician: single handedly dissapearing with no trace from an otherwise live and healthy, meaty lil blog of a blog.

mine lays here, skinny and lethargic: hooked to an IV, it's ribs showing....yes....it needs some juice...

i have gone and moved. im almost done with the thing they call 'moving in' which if you have alot of shit, like myself, and are a very sentimental pack rat, like myself, and also have other hobbies which allocates lots of random items, like myself, it is a very painful, exhausting thing. the good part though is that I got someone there to help me out before i pass out. that's always a nice thing.

im dying to make art. my art table is littered with said random shit. all i want to do is draw, and my art chair is still at my other place. god damn it. im gonna be so glad when im done.

and then i will have art for whoever happns to swing by and find this long lost blog. i promise i'll give it some redbull and tonic and kick it into high gear asap!

so more pages coming off the hot burning printing press of an art table. These are really becoming all i could hope for. They are aged like a fine cheese...since i penciled them months ago (seriously, they are well overdue)...it's taken me a long time to go from start to finish, but all the stuff im learning in between seems to be rearing it's pretty face....who doesn't love that devilish grin of success???

and in other news....i feel a storm a brewing, with some amazing fireworks of inks and art on the horizon. I cant say too much about it, but when it happens you bet i'll let you know what to look out for ;) The world has strange ways of connecting people at various times in ones life. Let's just say that chevy nova's can be the chrome links in a chain of some neat cyber friendships of fainting sheep.

so my next venture that i have cooking up is a team-up with a really awesome guy, oddly enough, that i met on myspace years ago. he's a writer and a damn good one at that. he's going to be big. okay, so i have gotten a few 'where'd you learn to draw' messages and things like that so im up to answer questions, if you'd like to ask them.

I have been drawing since I was little....it has always interested me. I wanted to be an animator...i wanted to create movies like the little mermaid and stuff.....I was always in awe at the way animation was made and how they got drawing to move. I got into comics when i was in 5th grade, after my mom bought a box of marvel flaire trading cards at a yard sale for me. since then, i was hooked. I used to draw from those cards, and got all sortz of made fun of. "why do you draw boobies" "ewww your gross" but somehow I didn't care because I thought they never understood it. The feeling I'd get when drawing....I guess it would be called 'passion' or 'drive', but somehow that was more important to me than letting their mean ways get to me. I made a descision way back then that I wanted to be a famous artist and would do whatever I could to get there.
I entered contests and won a lot. I got sucked more into art as i got older, which made me give up friends and social things most kids do. But I didn't seem to mind all that much....I was happy living in my own world. I read a lot of books, I entered contests and throughout school realized a bit more of what I wanted to do. I graduated high school early, because I was sick of being around people that weren't like me. I was taking college classes while in high school and wanted to be one of those kids on the news that graduates college and high school at the same time. I dont think my parents ever quite understood my passion, as they felt the social experience of high school was important and wouldn't let me do independant study until my junior year. And after I lost all the art I had ever made in a school fire in the art room.
i grieved a lot from that, questioned if art was really what I was supposed to do in life, and reconfigured how important the worlds were that I made up in my sketchbooks....I gradually came back after about a year of wandering and doing a lot of thinking about art, and not actually materializing it. I went to CALARTS for a high school summer school program in animation: which I loved but also got a reality check from: as the handdrawn animation industry at the time was dying.
I went to college. I won scholarshp competitions to pay for art supplies I couldn't normally afford. I dreamed of going to art school, but the dreams wouldn't cough up the $40,000 i needed and so i went on to go finish my degree at a newly refurbished mental institution, that I think I nearly lost my mind at. Im now at a good place, and I think I'm going in a good direction. I only looked back today after reading something deemed ficticious, but based on truth that made me reflect on the hours I used to spend righting all the ideas and feelings in my head down in strathmore sketchbooks. It inspired me to write this, so thank you troubled girl....

so here's something not so lame. a OKAMI piece I did for a DA contest to win a Wii. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out and me and Photoshop had a nice romp through a smiley, poppy-laced field with this one, so it was all a pleasant experience. (and no, that's not drug reference there, I just mean I actually managed to use Photoshop on this and not want to shoot my computer up with ACME elephant bullets when I was finished...

hey everyone, i've been a bit absent of late...it's always a bit tough to have time to update all my pages and stuff when im working two jobs....but i get stuff done eventually...

So, I've been waiting and waiting to the 'near print date' of a certain comic I'm rather fond of...I've been teasing it a bit on my DA page, as well as this one too and of course my blog....and now I think I cant tell you all what's up and post the actual art on here in a few days.

So, I managed to snag the back pin-up in the final issue of the first run of UMBRELLA ACADEMY. It's been done for months, but I wasn't allowed to say anything about it. I will say now though (as it hits shelves this wednesday, february 20th) that I am SO honored and humbled to join the ranks of UA pin-up artists, along with other AMAZING (and I must say MUCH more well known than I, like by a million times!) comic artists such as Becky Cloonan, Fabio Moon, and Vasilis. These people are seasoned pro's and I'm so fucking happy I have an opporunity to contribute to a book to chalked full of fucking talent. SERIOUSLY!!! I seriously still cannot believe I actually have work in a book that I am such a fan of, but somehow the fates have smiled my way and given me the opportunity to share the printed pages with the amazing talents of James Jean, Gabriel Ba and Gerard Way....it's only one page, but I have been so fucking stoked about it! so there...now it's out....I think I can gush now! I cant wait to see what it looks like in print, it's a fully rendered pencil drawing, kinda similar to the snake cover I did for issue 11 of ARCHAIC.

And speaking of ARCHAIC, the boys will be at Wizard World Los Angeles selling copies of the book, the trades and issues 10, 11, 12 (the 3 issue story arc I contributed on) in artists alley. I'll most likely be there on saturday signing, but I'll defiantly update here first to let everyone know exactly when and where I'll be. The con is march 14-16 I think...and if you want your copy of UA signed, I'd love to sign that as well...

And now I'm thinking towards SDCC of this year...I dont know if I'll be doing sketchbooks or not...what do you all think? Let me know if you'd be interested in getting one, and if there's enough interest, I'll put my 'sketchbook makin' gloves' on and get the whip crackin'

So that's that...I'm writing today, because I have a bunch of crap to finish this next week and I dont know if I'll get a chance to write again....

WOW!...im at 50 posts! yahoo! well...this lil post is part of another HELLBOY boy...more to come, the goodness in full view. ARCHAIC 12 is in shops this week. I actually went in and bought a copy and was kinda stoked they decided to use my marker colors....I thought that idea was trashed...I really love the way markers look...

I was also talked into buying a rather sweet umbrella academy shirt from one of the nice employees of my local comic shop. It's a fucking rad-ass shirt! But it's a lil' big, and rather boxy, so I'm going to take my sewing skills into action and chop this baby up and recreate it.

Perhaps that will be another blog. Teach them boys who make these comic shirts that us gals like to look like, well, errrmm...uh like GALS when we wear the shirts...Some of the only comic based shirts I've come around that were actually for girls were 'Emily the Strange', this cool pin-up dude from comic con, and Mr. David Mack from 'Kabuki'...Mack: always thinking of ways to make the ladies look sexy while sporting kabuki shirts....he's either one smart cookie, or one of his girl-pals suggested it...either way, he's got the best girl cut shirts out there...

So yes...this is a major problem to any and all comic related T-shirt making folks out there. We ladies like comic book shirts. We'll sport the hell out of them. Just make them fit! Same goes with hoodies....boy did i want a spiderman hoodie...or batman...but out of all the towers and piles of shirts and sweatshirts at comic con could I find one remotely my size?? FUCK NO! I ended up trying to fit into kids sizes, which didn't work either because I have unusually long ass arms....Maybe I should just start making them myself....hmmm...

okay, since i really just didn't like that last post i posted here....i mean really didn't like it, like fricken hated the way i colored it and drew it for what it's worth......i had to redeem myself, keep myself from feeling like crap. so here's a page of hellboy for the taking....much better than the last post. i feel somewhat redeemed...my art meter is moving away from 'craptastic' to middle ground 'good' again...phew!

okay, well i posted this on my DA account already, so i figured i'd post here too. i dont think this is as sucessful as the other one i did. i didn't do the pencils as tight, which resulted in an 'okay' ink job, which then was colored with a less than stellar muddied up marker coloring. i'm not happy with this one... but i'll post it anyways....as it's part of the process...i think there's too much going on in the composition...and i sort was just sketching, without a real clear, impactful image in my head and i think that lack of clarity explains the so-so art....

so me and my BF went to go see the coldwar kids on friday down at my favorite concert place, the wiltern. we left early, thinking there'd be accidents galore from stressed out housewifes who spent too much on black friday and crashed their mercedes while trying to think up a good story to tell their hubbies when the credit card bills came...but surprisingly....in this here town of los angeles, traffic was normal!

so we had hours to kill once we got down there, got some coffee, made some paper airplanes out of magazine card inserts...and i decided i wanted to kill time by going to CVS, buying some notepads and snacking at denny's drawing comic scribbles...

sorry for the lack of posts/ art/ etc lately...i've been doing revisions, some neato stuff and taking a lil bit of a breather after doing so much art. I just finished something that i think is some of the best sumtin' sumtin' i've done in a quite a while. I need to go through and see if i can share it, but it's something cool that'll be in a rather well known, big ticket thing...and a bit of a dream too...

sketchcards for charity

im doing some sketchcards for charity to support the American Cancer Society. The event is being organized by the folks @ Blue Line Pro....these will be auctioned off in a large group charity auction on March 8, 2008 @ Comics 2 Games, 166 Mt. Zion Road, Florence, Kentuky. 100% of the proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

This is the first of a set im doing. My first cat died of feline lukemia, so this is in rememberance of him. his name was Jub Jub...named after the iguana from the simpsons. He was the sweetest cat, and it was trrible watching his life fade until he passed.

I've had numerous encounters with people I'm close with and the effects of Cancer. It's something that is close to my heart, and if i can support it in any way, i'll do my very best.

ARCHAIC 10 in stores!!!

im writing this late oct. 9, to inform you that ARCHAIC #10 (my first issue all penciled and inked) comes out tomorrow. i thought it was supposed to be out on Oct. 31....but i was wrong. so i guess that's good news....or bad, because i wanted to go pick up some 'desolation jones' trades, and i cant show my face in the comic store for a few weeks for fear of feeling like a giraffe amongst a gabble of geese.....

oh well....maybe i'll go see 'across the universe' again....or watch my new set of 'avante guarde' cinema.

This is just more reason for me to love the art, support the hell out of the book (like it even needs my help, sold out of the first printing almost immediately!!!) and say that, besides mr. so yah...after much though...well...not really a ton of it...i guess as a kid, i never related to 'snow white'. I thought about this after posting tis on my devaint art account about an hour or so ago. funny stuff it is.

i had this commision, to do whatever...so i started drawing my own character, that i'm going to start working more on. Well yes. there's some good ole' fashioned murder and whatnot in the story, so i was 'yah, this is going to be like a kick ass murderous piece all crime noire and like'. yah well, didn't turn out that way. somehow it turned into a snow white looking chic....guess it's the hood and that bloody heart in her hand...somewhere inbetween the inking and coloring it turned out that way. it looks like snow-white took some action into her own hands, so-to-speak, and killed the woodsman and took his heart. i guess that's the gist of what it turned out to look like.

snow white's too damn sweet anyways....thought i'd give her some edge...cinderella had to go through hell to get her prince charming...i used to like cinderella when i was a kid....same with the little mermaid....also, my favorite disney movie. snow white, well....she just was nice and stuff. shit happpened to her. she ate a bad apple. not too dramatic. fell asleep. the glass coffin was sorta neat...but a lil too clean. there was some movie a few years back with sigourney weaver as the evil queen which was pretty good.

yah, so im rambling...was going to make this insightful, but well, you just got a whole blog of ramblin's! better than nothing though, eh?

so yah, this was a commision for a myspace aquaintance, a red sonja request. been chillin' the past two days and boy does it feel good to have a work load off your chest. been catching up on this huge mutherfucken stack of comics i keep on buying and not looking at because i had deadlines i had to do...so, i jumped into a bunch of back issues of STEAMPUNK i just picked up, the latest IRON MAN, done by a swell friend, mr. ERIC CANETE....who was amazingly kind and gave me a ton of his work and saved me the trouble of searching and buying old back issues on ebay and my local shop...so THANK YOU ERIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! his work is a huge fucking inspiration to me!

also, trades of THE GOON, HELLBOY and various cool art books and fashion magazines i've been hoarding. NYLON rocks and FRENCH VOGUE has the coolest editorials ever...so yah, that's been my two days. decided i should go out and wake up my leg muscles from their 2 week hybernation...went jogging...it kicked my ass...i know i'll feel it tomorrow...the fun thing about being a comic artist is the out of shape part. you forget to oil the machine that is the body....but it's important and i need to go outside more often than i do...yes...a mid to end years resolution: some sort of workout regime besides my thumb push-ups to get the blood recirculating in my fingers after 6 hours at the drawing table. hahahah!

YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! after a late late nite until i couldn't draw a straight line, i've officially completed three full issues of pencils and inks for ARCHAIC, issues 10-12. i took a lil break yesterday and hit the comic shop to buy old backissues of STEAMPUNK, as it's something i've been meaning to buy and always forgot to. I really need to start bringing lists into the comic shop/convention because as soon as i walk through that door, i go blank and end up with $40 worth of cool stuff i didn't mean to buy.

on saturday i went to an awesome art show down in LA to promote a new artbook FUSION JUNCTION 2. My BF wanted to check out LeSEAN THOMAS's new stuff and i was there to see ERIC CANETES cool cool art! It was a lot of fun, in little china, which, although living so damn close to LA, I've never been to. It smelled like udon noodles and eggrolls as soon as we got off the freeway...very cool...

I've been mad busy the last month and so that's the reason for the lack of posting...i did comic con in july which was utterly awesome and utterly exhausting. I was fortunate enough to meet and greet GABRIEL BA, FABIO MOON, GERARD WAY, SCOTT ALLIE, RANDY STRADLEY, CHEEKS, ERIC CANETE, JASON CRAIG, PETER PALMOITTI, and a ton more that i cant remember their names....It was really awesome to put a face to a name and talk comics.

It was also really awesome seeing all of the hardcore ARCHAIC fans. This was only my second time sitting with JAMES ABRAMS and BRETT MARTING in support of ARCHAIC. They have some absolutely amazing fans and i really hope my run on their series does this amazing *effing book justice.

Yesterday, when i was at the comic shop....i meekly checked out the PREVIEWs mag they had on the counter to see the issue 11 ARCHAIC solictation...it was so cool. i remember in high school buying PREVIEWS just to check out all the cover art and stuff....i dont think back then i would have imagined seeing my stuff in it, but there it was...and it's pretty surreal.

today, i think im going to chill. My thumb has this massive calluse on it and it hurts pretty bad. But no pain, no gain, as they say....and drawing til it hurts is the life i live.

I've been catching up on news and crap through my favorite podcast AROUND COMICS. I must say i really was touched by their tribute to MIKE WIERINGO, and although i have never read a TELOS book...the care and closeness of the comics industry really stood out, despite this tragedy. It's really a close industry as i am coming to see, most people know everyone else, and the admiration, cohesiveness and compassion in the industry is really shown when they experience loss of their comrads. There's something there, kindled, in the hearts and minds of comics artists that joins them all and, in comparing it to other industries, it's really something that brings a warm fuzzy feeling to yah...and i cant quite put it into words. Perhaps it's all of us frantically trying to put out creative juices out there in the threat of our own mortality, perhaps it's because we are sensitive to responding to our environments...im not sure...but it's fucking admirable beyond anything, and i couldn't be happier being a tiny part of it all....

So, as far as art goes, issue 10 of ARCHAIC hits next month. I think maybe i'll hole myself into my room until the storm is over...which wont be until december. Issue 11 and 12 i believe are NOV and DEC...It's funny the emotions one goes through with doing comics...first it's excitement, because your working on an awesome book...then the wave of overwhelming work hits and it really seems quite impossible to do the amount of work that is in a single issue. I'm looking back now and i cant fucking believe that i actually drew over 60 fucking pages....it's nuts and makes me a lil queezy. and everytime i finish a book i get this wonderful sense of relief, accomplishment, and happiness....then as the thought of it hitting the market comes into my head, im both excited as hell and nervous as fuck!

"fuck....there's so many fucking amazing artists out there that are so much better..."

the whole constant happy/sad/happy/insecure/happy thing goes through your head, that i almost think it's best not to think about it and just move on the the next thing...

and we'll just see what that is, eh? ha!

wow, it's been one hell of a month. i promise mid september, im going to get these puppies up and running and posted on a regular basis. i've been mad busy...and let me tell you that revisions, although made for the greater good, are very time consuming lil' buggers and have made me a wee bit stressed. im posting a bunch of sketch images i did for wonderfully suppportive people i was fortunate enough to finally meet in person at comic con this year. so many folks i know through myspace and those lil avatars....and it's really neat meeting people face to face, if not a little nerve racking as im a bit of a shy person...

so here we go. i hope you enjoy, and you'll be seeing a lot more coming later this month as i finish up my run with ARCHAIC and jump right into the creation of a 6 page original introduction for WAR OF THE INDEPENDANTS....and perhaps some other neat stuff ;)

oh yah...i went to a classsic car show today which was fucking awesome. i really wish i had the time and knowledge on how to fix up cars, especially old ones! *DROOL*

A fresh start: JUNE

So after a month and a half of stress, thinking I wasn't going to pass a mandatory language class, (because the language and mathmatical part of my brain ceases to function at normal capacity), I checked my grades....and I PASSED! That means I oficially have a BA of Fine Arts (unless they F*** up somewhere in academics and tell me some class I took does't count or something)

Anyways, some may not really care, but to me that is such a tremendous relief. I have been doing comics for the past year and doing school full time as well as working part time at a retail job, and it has been one hell of a juggling act. Not to mention I somehow managed to pay my way through school all on my own with grant writing, scholarships and financial aid. So I think I can finally take a month to just exhale and relax and de-stress myself after all those years of college. And shop like any girl would like to...graduation reward shopping! yahoo!

So I'm currently working on the second half of issue 11 for ARCHAIC. And because I just finished the tedious rendering of a cover, I thought I would share. I use a pentel mechanical pencil for everything, 05 lead. Nope. None of those fancy art pencils or different grade graphite things or whatnot, just ole' trusty. I actually got so attached to this particular model of pentel mechanical pencil that I bought about 10 in backup in case the one I use ever decides to spontaniously combust.

one is a superman sketch that was going to be part of my comic con 2007 sketchbook. i think i wanted to go a bit cartooney at first with this and then i got into realistic detail and i dont know what happed. it was supposed to be the 'krypton-hulk' kicking superman's ass.....because i was never all that into superman, except for the old old cartoons. and i thought, well if the hulk is green and krypton is green, maybe we'll just say he is made of kryptonite in this and that's how he beats superman. like a crayola crayon. totally odd-ball reasoning, but i was in a weird mood.

and this was just me messing with lines and whatnot......

this is one of many sketches im doing leading up to a pin-up for a french book, ae. i really need to get some trades of the book and learn french so i can read them....and the only place remotely connected to the US that carries the book is amazon canada, ae. so im going to order some soon ae. and then i'll post some more sketches.

right now im knee deep in issue 11 of ARCHAIC. and i'll have the cover design on here soon as well. it's very tattoo like and now that i think of that, im pretty pissed they sent kat back to LA on "miami ink". bummer.

ARCHAIC priests

So, as you may or may not know, I am working on a RAD book called 'ARCHAIC'. (www.archaiccomic.com). They just printed the second volume last month for Wizard World LA, and anyone that got their lucky paws on one is a better person for doing so. But don't frett just yet. You too, can be a better person as well! Simply by going to your local comic store and ordering numerous copies for everyone in your life, you too shall achieve "better-person-dom".

With that said, (and since I have Russian guards bigger and meaner than Chuck Lidel guarding these puppies, so no eyes besides my own and my lucky lil' cat can see them) I give you some sweet character designs I have done for the TECHNOLYTE priests of ARCHAIC. I am dubbing this fellows mechanical hair as a Fiber-Optic mohawk or 'OPTO-HAWK'. Yes I coined that term. Cool, I know....so since I've been a slacker as far as my posting has gone, you lucky lil' devils get many sketches instead of just one. I wish I were you....LOL.

another jazz class exclusive. today, i dont remember what the professor was lecturing about besides it had something to do with jazz from the 60's and a saprano sax....funny thing too because despite not being able to recollect what i learn each day in that class, i dont study and do just fine on the tests....some weird subliminal thing....i have no clue.

but anyways, i was too into drawing tree moss, leopard prints on tarzan's package and mad monkeys to ink this one....i kinda like it better that way actually. i was thinking about those old tarzan movies they play on TCM or AMC sometimes, with the subtitles.....black and white.....and the best TARZAN MOVIES EVER! and there's a whole slew of 'em too...i watched some marathon thing they had on about 6 months ago or so...

there's this one with jane and she looks like a flapper on safari....somehow she ends up in a river with tarzan and boy they sure weren't shy about the transparency of wet shirts back in the 30's..... Those movies are something i need to add to my collection. they rock! nuff' said.

so, yah...it's splinter. im tired. i went to go get strathmore bristol and our Aaron brother only carries crappy canson, which i sadly found out, is not acid free. so i bought it and then went to michaels to look at pens, since i called them prior and they told me they didn't have 11"x 14" bristol. LYING BASTARDS! they had it...but i was outta cash. so now im stuck with canson....but back to the original post. it's splinter. i drew a rat in 30 minutes in my jazz class. boy, did i ever want to just lay my head down today and go to sleep in that class...........yup...rats are cool. but only cartoon rats...real rats are like bunnies: evil as hell

so today was my lil brothers b-day....and we went to go see TMNT (the hip, new abreviation for that beloved wacky creation that is 'teenage mutant ninja turtles').
ah yes, the intro...about four young turtles transformed by toxic goo, named after the great renaissance masters and trained in the ancient arts of the ninja brought me way back to when i used to watch this stuff when i was a kid....and yes...the movie was good....and so i drew a turtle...i wanna do a crazy angled one of all four of the turtles, but this will have to suffice for tonite. off to go watch kat on miami ink!

(oh yes, and because it seems unhip to sign my complete name on everything....im trying out new lil' sigies to see if i can sign art the new hip way.....damn you hipsters!)

well, im going to try to have some sort of doodle up here at least every three days (hahah i say that now...) well, i briefly looked at some of a pal of mines doodles...'ladytron' by eric canete...and loved the character who i am not really all that familiar with. i think i only saw maybe like three quick images of the character because i had to go run erands, but it's something i wanna draw as a pin-up. this outfit and character is missing things and because i was in my jazz class with no referance material, besides my crappy memory....i'm going to have to re-do it because it's anything but accurate...but it kept me entertained in class, kept me from nodding off....and the lines are pretty clean. enjoy.

sooooooooo....I got the "a-okay" from my boss to post the cover of the next issue of ARCHAIC that I'm working on. I'll get interior inks out when the issue is about to hit store shelves (oct. 2007) , but hopefully this will get you all excited and whatnot about PRE-ORDERED this puppy from PREVIEWS when it becomes orderable (if that's even a word.)

I'm a bit of a photoshop idiot, so all you smart photoshop-savy folk just keep the coloring jokes to yourself. I'm learning!!!

ARCHAIC "dirt" short story inks

My first work for a really great book called ARCHAIC comes out this month, in the volume #2 trade paperback. I did this short 8 pager way back in August 2006....so it's quite a bit old by now, it seems, but has some cool stuff. The ARCHAIC TPB is available at your local comic store and is really something worth picking up, as the story is pretty darn intriguing and the art earned Mr. Brett Marting a Golden Chazzie nomination for best artist , not to mention ARCHAIC was nominated for Best Ongoing Series.

Wizard magazine issue 186 (feb. 2007) also recognized ARCHAIC as the fourth top indie book on their list of indie comics to look out for. yahoo. so after the majority of my favorite artists seem to have these awesome blogs, i thought i'd give it a try. see what happens.....maybe it'll force me to do more warm-ups, share more of my sketchbooks and provide a more formidable collection of thoughts and whatnot.

I give you synchrotron. Definition: "An accelerator in which charged particles are accelerated around a fixed circular path by an electric field and held to the path by an increasing magnetic field. "*

In the context of this blog: An accelerator in which creatively charged energy is accelerated around a fixed circular path (hence the ironic synchronicity in my life) by an energy field (creative drive) and held to the path by an increasing drive, determination and greater knowledge of what it is that i do.

i figure the art is my path and things just keep accelerating beyond my wildest dreams, and so the name ironically fits. i thought of the word, not knowing the defintion, while driving home from wizard world los angeles 2007. hope you'll stop by ever once in a while and read up.
